The Alex Film Society
screens vintage films at Glendale's 1925-vintage Egyptian-inspired movie
palace, the Alex Theatre. This
semester, we went to an AFS program built around the camp-horror classic,
House
on Haunted Hill.
As always, the AFS supported the film with an informative newsletter,
a relevant lobby exhibit, a vintage cartoon, and a special introduction
for the Mass Comm 101 group. |

We had a terrific turnout for this field trip. These
were the early arrivals; we eventually had more than 80 MC101s and guests.

Here's what the theater looked like in 1959.

Back to the neon mentioned above. At left is a shot of the
Alex's classic neon spire at night.

Well, back to this afternoon's field trip...
One of the fun things to do at the Alex is to just hang out and spend some time in the theater's glamorous forecourt. |
|
| The Stooges are coming! The Stooges are coming! These MC101s pose in front of a poster touting the Alex's Three Stooges extravaganza, screened each year on the Saturday of Thanksgiving weekend. |
| In keeping with the Halloween theme, we came
across this cadaverous ghoul. And the guy in the sombrero was pretty creepy, too. |
