MC101s Mosey Around
the Autry National Center
Autry Group
The Autry National Center is an appropriate place for the first Mass Comm 101 field trip of the semester. It compares the media version of the American West with the actual West.

Our Tuesday afternoon outing began in the plaza next to the museum entrance.

We had a great turnout.

These MC101s are just outside the museum in an area made to look like a scene from a classic Western. In reality, this spot is very near the interchange of the Ventura and Golden State Freeways.

No, the Autry does not allow museum patrons to come into the museum on horseback. But it does give them (including this MC101) the opportunity to sit atop this remarkably well-behaved steed.

 doing the assignment
These MC101s found a quiet corner of the museum to sort through their field trip assignment notes.
Chinese Dragon The American West was a more diverse place than was typically depicted in classic Western entertainment. This dragon was part of an exhibit on the Chinese community in Los Angeles.
MC101s in jail
The Wild West featured more than its share of marginal characters. These latter-day desperados made their way into the jail exhibit on the museum's lower level.
