Autry Introduces MC101s to
the Media Version of the West
Our Group
The Autry National Center is an appropriate place for a Mass Comm 101 field trip. It compares the media version of the American West with the actual West.

Our Tuesday afternoon outing began in the plaza next to the museum entrance.

The Autry does a good job of presenting both the actual American West and the entertainment version of the American West. This gallery sought to present a factual portrayal of Western life.
In the Museum

This outdoor area of the museum recreates a Western landscape, except in this case it is near the interchange of two major freeways.

Western Street
This street depicts the construction of Western-themed sets for the movies.
Doing the Assignment
The MC101s did a good job of fanning out through the museum and doing their assignments.
Chinese Dragon This dragon was part of an exhibit on the Chinese community in Los Angeles.
In the Autry Jail
The Wild West featured more than its share of marginal characters. These latter-day desperados made their way into the jail exhibit on the museum's lower level.
