We Tour Los Angeles Times Newsroom (and Downtown)
Here we are in the Times newsroom. Although the ownership of the Times has changed, the newsroom still has a no-nonsense look to it. Darrell Kunitomi of the Times answers questions from the MC101s.

As always, the Mass Comm 101 field trip to the Times began with a hearty breakfast at Phillippe's, home of the French Dip Sandwich, a fixture in Downtown Los Angeles since 1908. Typically, only a few students answer the call for an early breakfast Downtown, but it is good to sit down and talk with them in a more informal setting than the classroom usually allows.

We got an unusually large turnout for Phillippe's. Here we are before going (some of us driving, others walking) to the Times.
Those of us in the walking group went through historic Olvera Street on our way to the Times...
... where a sizable tour group was waiting for us.
Afterward, we took a walking tour of Downtown. One stop was the 1893 Bradbury Building
An interesting stop on the walking tour is this wedding chapel on Broadway. Full service wedding ceremony packages start at under $200.

On to lunch and our afternoon field trip to the Los Angeles Central Library.
