USENET DEFINED

Usenet Newsgroups are like giant bulletin boards. A "thread" is started by someone who "posts" a message (usually asking a question) for the other people who frequent that particular newsgroup, who follow up by "posting" their responses, and so on. The messages on one particular thread are strung together in a row so that you can read them in chronological order. These groups can be very informative, however it is often exhausting to wade through heaps of irrelevant information in hopes of stumbling onto something of real value to your search. One way of using this service to your benefit is to "post" your own question, and either ask that responses be sent to your Email address, or go back and check the "thread" regularly to see what has transpired there.
